Under OSHA's Bloodborne Pathogens Standard (29 CFR 1910.1030), regulated waste has to go into containers that close, resist leaks, and show either red coloring or the biohazard label. Our red bags cover both, and our LLDPE lines also meet ASTM dart impact and Elmendorf tear testing plus the DOT packaging rules in 49 CFR 173.197. Those last two matter once a hauler picks up the waste and the bag leaves your building.
Bag selection usually comes down to the container size and the weight of what goes in it. For exam rooms and bench-top cans, we stock a 24" x 25.6" 12-gallon bag with built-in ties, plus mid-size 25" x 30" and 25" x 35" bags. Heavier loads call for our 38" x 45" bags in 1.5 mil or 3.0 mil. The 40" x 55" and 57" x 65" sizes fit larger collection carts, and clear 2 mil 6" x 9" bags handle specimen transport and small-item containment.
Labs that treat waste on site can choose from 1.8 mil and 2.0 mil autoclave bags, including printed versions with an indicator strip for visual cycle confirmation. Pharmacy and oncology units can use the yellow 25" x 34" chemotherapy bag to keep trace chemo waste out of the red-bag stream. The category also includes a 3-gallon sharps container, fluid disposal bags, and a fluid solidifier for liquid waste.
